Mist-Lining Workshop

Workshop participants, Mist-Lining Workshop, Porto, Portugal, 2025.

In April of 2025, I spent three days learning the mist-lining technique with Kate Seymour and 23 conservators from around the world. The workshop included one day of lecture and two days of hands-on application. We prepared our spray booth tent, stretched and masked the lining canvas, sanded and removed loose fibers from the lining canvas, and applied the acrylic adhesive with a spray gun. We then prepared the low-pressure envelope and solvent reactivation cloths. After a full run-through practicing each of the choreographed steps, we successfully lined our test paintings using the low-pressure envelope.

Many thanks to our instructor, Kate Seymour, our organizer 20|21 Conservação e Restauro de Arte Contemporânea, and host MMIPO (Museu da Misericórdia do Porto).
